At 499 Broadway in Southampton, New York, a rambling new abode custom designed by Cavallo Building is the winsome setting for this year’s edition of the Hampton Designer Showhouse. Presented by HC&G (Hamptons Cottages & Gardens), the annual event is once again raising funds for Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, with public tours running through September 3.

Hampton Designer Showhouse 2023

Honorary guest chairs Alexa Hampton and Jamie Drake lead the charge, as the house features some 30 spaces decked out by 20 interior designers, complete with summertime tablescapes by AreaEdit, Huniford Design Studio, Mottahedeh, and Natalie Annette Design.

Below, take a glimpse inside the three-story home’s one-of-a-kind mélange of spaces, robust with fresh design ideas and inspiration.

For the Hampton Designer Showhouse’s multifunctional entry, Antonio DeLoatch created an intimate sitting area brightened by Lee Industries upholstery. “We were immediately drawn to this luxurious soft purple velvet on the chairs,” he says. Off the foyer is the generously sized, albeit cozy, powder room, outfitted with white oak, a custom marble sink, a suite of Kohler products, and Kravet wallpaper “that doesn’t feel too beachy.”

Porter Teleo’s hand-painted black-on-white wallpaper and artworks by Sylvia Hommert offer just the spirited backdrop Brazil-born designer Cristiana Mascarenhas wanted for her living room, which pays homage to her South American homeland. Naturally, she turned to local showroom Heritage Brazil to help craft the imagined hangout, which is filled with goods by Brazilian artisans, including Fellicia, Móveis James, Evelyn Tannus, Uultis, Doimo Brasil, and Paolo Alves—each pulling from The Rug Company floor covering’s rainbow palette.

In Mikel Welch’s chic, minimalist, sun-drenched family room, seating options abound to create moments for socializing and togetherness. A duo of slipcover sectionals from Lee Industries are the centerpiece. Pointing to them, Welch says, “The warm bouclé fabric and curved sides add a modern touch.” The seating vignette is rounded out by tables from Juniper & Bros. Furniture, drapery from The Shade Store, floor covering from ABC Carpet & Home, and artwork by Huda Hashim.

A reeded island accented by a Dekton countertop, Studio Van den Akker pendants, and Thomas Hayes Studio shearling and leather stools sets the tone for Ciuffo Cabinetry’s contemporary ambiance, buoyed by the maker’s custom high-gloss white cabinets with circle glass insets.

The posh kitchen is accompanied by an airy dining nook by Michelle Gerson Interiors. Backdropped by a display of decorative plates from the Artist Plate Project, it brings together an Aronson Woodworks table with throne-like Artistic Frame Company chairs and Gerson’s own chandelier made in collaboration with Gabriel Scott.

Butler’s pantry by Cami Weinstein Designs

In the butler’s pantry, Cami Weinstein opted for luxe touches to make a mighty impact in a small space. She notes that clear quartz and brass hardware from Matthew Studios (sourced at Katonah Architectural Hardware) “elevate the beautiful metallic cabinetry,” as does the collection of Connor McGinn Studios pottery. Shades of purple, each color-matched to Sarah Von Dreele’s Rouge Framboise Marie-Thérèse wallpaper, make for “a fanciful color palette,” Weinstein adds.

Dining room by Elissa Grayer Interior Design

Envisioning a space “inspired by the deep green of summer and the vibrant flowers that grow on Long Island,” Elissa Grayer plotted her dining room design around Fromental’s Ogata wallpaper. “We love the way the flowers are sprinkled across the ground of the silk paper and lead your eye around the room,” says the designer. Crystal chairs embedded with leaves, a wood-grain pattern adorning the ceiling, and window curtains further enforce the nature theme. Instead of crown molding, Grayer opted for fabric trims “to bring a splash of color to the ceiling,” she adds.

Mudroom by LGC Interior Design

Whimsy is a hallmark of LGC Interior Design, and it manifests in the mudroom and pool bath. After stumbling upon a pillow emblazoned with the image of a horse, founder Lori Miller forged her theme for the former; the discovery of a wooden peg doll spawned the latter’s. Miller deems the semi-flush glass chandelier from Vaughan Designs “that just captivated us” and Kohler’s round, gold mirror as signature design elements, but “our decorating technique that was the most interesting was that in both rooms we focused on the timeless base layer of shiplap and woodwork,” she explains. “We added textiles and accent pieces to transition from house to home.”

The bar table topped in a Calacatta Capraia marble—with its emerald green, indigo blue, and berry veining—became the springboard for the terrace’s rich hues, including the Farrow & Ball’s Brinjal paint that coats the ceiling. “We selected a deep berry color to create an intimate and joyful entertainment area,” says Danielle Chiprut, founder of Danielle Rose Design, who rounded out the exterior with Four Hands furniture, CB2 hanging chairs, and hammered brass lighting from Arteriors.

For the showhouse’s outdoor kitchen, designer Brogan Lane called upon Collette Home, the Hamptons mainstay consignment and retail store teeming with luxury designer clothing and furniture. Fittingly, she utilized upcycled materials for the greenery-laden outdoor spot, a social gathering hub that unites Bevolo Gas & Electric lights with Cosentino countertops and Royal Botania furniture.

Designer Maureen Winter McDermott has long incorporated Dedon products into her projects, and this time around she selected ones “that would blend seamlessly into their surroundings, allowing them to speak for themselves,” the designer shares. Mixing teakwood with earth-toned woven and fully upholstered Brixx by Lorenza Bozzoli pieces, the alfresco spaces “encourage relaxation and being one with nature.”

“The motivating idea behind the room was to create a space for rest and rejuvenation while using as many furnishings and accessories that were as sustainable as possible,” says Shannon Willey, founder of Sea Green Designs. This led to embracing Mark Alexander’s vegetable-dyed floral fabric for the drapery, limewashed painted walls (the handiwork of Chandler Decorative Arts), a caned bed from Chaddock, an original oil painting by Casey Chalem Anderson, and ceramic table lamps by Jamie Young. The coastal blue palette carries through to outside, where Fermob’s outdoor furniture tinted Acapulco Blue decorates the adjoining sun deck.

Susanne Kelley Design

All is good as gold in Susanne Kelley’s primary bath, where the metallic hue goes as far as bordering a custom vanity by Ciuffo Cabinetry. Toying with a Golden Age theme, the designer selected Kohler’s Occasion lighting, which recalls vintage Hollywood, to pair with the brand’s Anthem shower system and freestanding Brazn bathtub. Gold leaf-flecked walls warm the white surfaces from Nemo Tile + Stone.

Bedroom by Oxford Design Studio

Evoking the Hamptons’s fishing villages of yore is Oxford Design Studio’s breezy bedroom, where founders Tate Casper and Jordan Winston married pared-back blues, greens, and linens with antiques such as the late 19th-century French bamboo mirrors.

Bedroom by Nea Studio

When Nina Edwards Anker’s son was diagnosed with cancer as a child, he received top-notch care at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, the showhouse’s benefactor. He’s a survivor, and Edwards Anker’s gratitude prompted her to “create a healing bedroom that connects with nature.” She chose non-toxic materials from companies like Odegard Carpets, WB Woodworking, and Sutherland Felt Company, culminating in a biophilic space that flaunts organic foams in the upholstered seating and Nea Studio–designed pieces like a crystallized headboard and algae lampshades. “The soft green glow of light through seaweed in my Chlorophyta lights echoes the luminous green and gold hand-painted wallpaper from Fromental,” Edwards Anker muses, “as well as the painting by Eric Dever depicting shimmering water lilies on a local pond.”

Plentiful blues, greens, stripes, and botanicals rendered in a custom Charles Stewart armchair and Fabricut bed, along with Stroheim window fabrics and Vaughan Designs lighting, lend a jubilant feeling in Sarah Regan’s bedroom. The energizing patterns are balanced with a soft gray Stark rug and artwork from Quogue Gallery.

Jacqui Eaton-Garland and Celeste Sullivan of Garland Sullivan Design teamed up with T. Michaels Contracting to create a zany, multifunctional den that invites working and lounging over cocktails alike. It has a collected, well-traveled atmosphere that capitalizes upon the room’s challenging eaves and differing ceiling heights through various vignettes, including a desk placed against Hunter Douglas window treatments, a bespoke bar, and a seating area capped off with Four Hands rugs.

Among the surrealist, illusionary, and lenticular artworks that Puccio Fine Art founder Lucia Giudice compiled for the lower-level landing gallery are pieces from Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Kaws, CJ Hendry, John Baldessari, Invader, and Mr. Brainwash. “Artists manage to get their points across in covert ways,” she says, and illuminating these for visitors was her objective. One example: the Vik Muniz mixed-media collage of sugar, string, sand, and metal “assembled in a way to reference a classic work by Cézanne.”

Bedroom by Clinton Smith Studio

Given his bedroom is located on the short-on-light lower level, Clinton Smith wanted it “to feel airy and bright. It needed to have breathing room,” he says. He was also keen to transport guests to other cultures, propelling him to source objects like a blue-and-white striped kilim rug that conjures Istanbul, overscale print bedding calling to mind Indian block-printing techniques, and an English chest of drawers, while Vaughan Designs’ “large peacock blue lamps add a sculptural touch,” Smith says.

Rather than put forth a traditional spare bedroom, Keith Baltimore dreamed up a fortifying retreat complete with a massage bed. Here, guests can find a true sanctuary and meditate amid a painterly Fromental wall covering and Four Hands furniture before showering against a wall of calming stripes courtesy of Nemo Tile + Stone.

Luxury was Melanie Roy Design’s goal for the billiard room, “which we accomplished with a custom painted liquid metal accent wall and chrome ceiling moldings from Badilla Painters,” she says, noting how it plays off Fromental’s travertine silk wall covering. Above the black lacquered pool table is a John Procario light sculpture from Todd Merrill Studio, while a pair of Ralph Pucci Libre chairs by Paul Mathieu flank the entry and sit across from Vaughan Design’s Thornton wall lights. Reflectel’s MirrorTV adds another aptly fun layer just as “Tim Bessell’s Marilyn Monroe surfboard sets the tone for summer fun,” Roy says.

Between the fireplace, screening area, backgammon table, and Jenn-Air appliances making summer tipples a breeze, there is ample reason to linger in the Kerry Delrose–designed recreational room. But the original interior posed a challenge, the designer shares: “One wall was all windows, one wall was all openings, one wall was a bar. So we had one wall to accommodate everything.” The game changer? That commodious bar Ciuffo Cabinetry custom designed with a Cosentino countertop and backdropped by Phillip Jeffries wallpaper. “It’s sleek, it’s simple, and it works beautifully,” Delrose says.
